Music For Books
8pm
Read aloud from your favourite text (book, poem, catalogue etc.) while house band the Bookmarks play in the background, adjusting the mood to your words as you speak. All ages welcome.
From organiser Paul Crossley: It’s mainly a musical event and unusual gig, a performance with random people (you) reading over the top. Live music meets live reading: a slightly chaotic blend of sound and spoken word (although it’s not a poetry slam, in case you were wondering).
Each reader gets 5 minutes – it keeps the energy up, and ensures everyone gets a chance to read.
I’m planning on three ‘chapters’ of readings with two intervals so we can have a breather. When you arrive, if you want to read, add your name to the list and what you’re going to read (so the compere can introduce you). Last year we had people read from their favourite book, poem, an oven manual, their diary, song lyrics, a horoscope, an OK! Magazine article, a comic…
Music for Books is – I hope – not boring or predictable.
Most importantly, Music for Books is nothing without you, the audience. We look forward to seeing you
